Air con regas and repair in Cardiff
Air conditioning does not use gas up. If yours has stopped working, it has leaked out, and refilling it without finding out where is money straight back into the air.
What is included
- Full system evacuation, vacuum test and recharge
- Both R134a and the newer R1234yf gas systems
- Leak testing with dye or a gas sniffer before we recharge
- Compressor, condenser, evaporator and pipework diagnosis
- Pollen filter replacement, which is usually where the smell is
- Anti-bacterial system clean where needed
- Temperature output measured before and after, so the result is proven
What it costs
A regas is priced by which gas your car takes, and the newer R1234yf is genuinely more expensive because the gas itself costs several times more. We check which one your car uses before quoting. If the system has leaked we will find the leak first, because recharging a leaking system is the one thing in this trade that is guaranteed to waste your money.
How long it takes
A regas takes around an hour. Leak detection and repair depends entirely on what is leaking, and we will tell you what we have found before going further.
Which makes
All makes and both gas types. Cars built from roughly 2017 onwards generally use R1234yf, and putting the wrong gas in a system is not something you can undo cheaply.

Air conditioning, questions answered
How often should air conditioning be regassed?
Most manufacturers suggest every two years, because a small amount of gas permeates out through the seals over time. If yours has gone from cold to useless in one season, that is a leak, not normal loss.
Why does my air con smell?
Usually bacteria on the evaporator behind the dashboard, and a pollen filter that has been in there too long. A filter and a system clean fixes almost all of them.
Which gas does my car take?
Roughly speaking, R134a on older cars and R1234yf from about 2017. There is a label under the bonnet and we always check it rather than assume, because they are not interchangeable.
Should I use air con in winter?
Yes, run it for a few minutes every couple of weeks. It keeps the compressor seals lubricated, and it clears a misted windscreen far faster than heat alone.
