VW, SEAT and Skoda specialist in Cardiff

Volkswagen, SEAT and Skoda share engines, gearboxes and electronics. See enough of them and the same handful of faults come round again and again.

What a general garage cannot do

The difference between a garage that will take your Volkswagen, SEAT and Skoda and a garage that knows it is mostly software, schedules and having seen the same fault a hundred times.

  • Marque-level diagnostics with coding and adaptation across the group
  • DSG oil and filter servicing, wet and dry clutch
  • Fixed and LongLife service regimes set correctly for how you drive
  • Timing belt and chain work on the EA189, EA288 and EA888 engines
  • DPF, EGR and emissions diagnosis and repair
  • Haldex servicing on four wheel drive models
  • Genuine and OEM parts, warranty preserved
  • Electronic parking brake and service indicator reset properly

What we actually see go wrong on Volkswagen, SEAT and Skoda

Written from what comes through the door, not copied off a forum. If yours is doing one of these, you are not imagining it.

1.4 TSI EA111

Timing chain jumping, often on start-up

The tensioner is the weak point on the earlier twincharger engines. A cold start rattle is the warning and it is not one to leave.

2.0 TDI EA189 and EA288

DPF blocking and EGR faults

Very common on cars used for short journeys. Usually fixable at sensor or EGR level rather than needing a new filter.

DSG, wet clutch

Hesitation and jerking at low speed

Overdue gearbox oil and filter in most cases. The mechatronic unit is the expensive outcome of ignoring it.

Golf, Passat, Octavia, Leon

Damp carpets and odd electrical faults

Blocked plenum drains letting water into the footwell, and from there into control modules. Cheap to clear, expensive to leave.

1.2 and 1.4 TSI

Rough idle and a misfire under load

Coil packs and injectors are the usual suspects, but a stretched chain can present the same way. Worth proving which before spending.

Service schedules

The group runs fixed servicing (annual or 9,000 miles) and LongLife (up to two years or 19,000 miles with the correct oil). Which regime your car is set to should match how you actually use it, and a lot of cars are on the wrong one. Beyond the oil service there are separate intervals for brake fluid, spark plugs, filters and, on many of these engines, the cambelt. We read your car's own schedule and tell you what is genuinely due.

The dealer question

These are cars people buy to be sensible. Paying dealer labour rates to maintain one stops being sensible fairly quickly, and there is no technical reason to.

Servicing at a qualified independent does not void a manufacturer warranty, provided the manufacturer schedule is followed and the parts used match the required quality. We do both, and we record it. How we handle parts.

Volkswagen, SEAT and Skoda, questions answered

When does the cambelt need doing on my TDI?

It varies by engine and year, commonly somewhere between four and five years or around 100,000 miles. Give us the registration and we will look up your exact engine rather than guessing.

Is DSG servicing really necessary?

On the wet clutch boxes, yes, usually around every 40,000 miles. It is a modest job that prevents a very immodest one.

Can you service a SEAT or Skoda to the same standard?

Yes. They are the same group engineering, the same software and the same schedules, and we treat them identically.

Will independent servicing affect my warranty?

No, provided we follow the manufacturer schedule and use matching-quality parts, which we do.

The other specialisms

Not on the list? Every make and model is welcome here.
