DPF cleaning and repair in Cardiff
A blocked DPF is almost always a symptom. Clean it without finding the cause and you will be back here before long, so we do both.

What it costs
A forced regeneration is the cheapest route and works when the filter is loaded rather than solid. A full clean costs more. Replacement is the expensive option and is genuinely a last resort. We work up that ladder rather than down it, and we tell you which rung your car is on before you commit.
How long it takes
A forced regeneration takes an hour or two including the road cycle. A filter clean is usually a day. If the cause turns out to be injectors or a turbo, that is a separate job and a separate quote.
Which makes
All diesel makes. We see a lot of the German diesels, where the filter blocking is very often a symptom of something upstream rather than the filter itself failing.

DPF cleaning, questions answered
Why does my DPF keep blocking?
Most often short journeys, because the filter never gets hot enough to burn itself clean. After that: a faulty differential pressure sensor, a leaking injector, a sticking EGR valve or an oil that is the wrong specification. It is nearly always fixable once you know which.
Can you remove the DPF instead?
No. Removing a DPF makes a vehicle illegal to use on the road and it is an automatic MOT failure. We will not do it, and anyone offering to is handing you a car you cannot legally drive.
Will a long motorway run clear it?
Sometimes, if you catch it early. Half an hour at sustained motorway revs can trigger a regeneration. Once the light has gone from amber to a limp mode, it needs doing properly.
Is a diesel still worth owning for short journeys?
Honestly, often not. If your driving is all short and urban, a diesel will keep giving you this problem. We would rather tell you that than keep cleaning filters.
